High-quality data compression program

bzip2 is a freely available, patent free (see below), high-quality data compressor. It typically compresses files to within 10% to 15% of the best available techniques (the PPM family of statistical compressors), whilst being around twice as fast at compression and six times faster at decompression.

Installation

Install bzip2 1.0.8 as follows:

guix install bzip2@1.0.8

Or install the latest version:

guix install bzip2

The bzip2 package provides more outputs besides the default (out). You can install them by appending :output-name to the package specification. For example:

guix install bzip2:static
